“ENGLISH FOR UNIVERSITY AND OVERSEAS STUDY”

 

Bell Vietnam’s very popular Academic Skills courses are now even better! From its new base in District 1, Bell is offering a new, dynamic series of courses covering the skills you need to succeed in English for your studies.

 

Overview      

 

ACADEMIC WRITING 1: (for students at approx. IELTS 4.5- 5.5). 24 hours

Designed for students at high school and undergraduate level who need both to improve their academic English and their writing skills in English.

 

At the end of the course students will be able to:

 

  • understand how to construct sentences and paragraphs in natural English
  • use punctuation and formatting correctly
  • manage their own vocabulary development
  • write basic reports based on describing data/graphs/tables
  • plan and develop discursive essays based around themes/topics
  • proof-read and edit their and others’ work

 

ACADEMIC WRITING 2: (for students at approx. IELTS 6.0 and above)

Designed for students planning to take higher degrees through the medium of English, or overseas, who need to write at more advanced levels for academic purposes.

 

At the end of the course students will be able to:

 

  • write complex sentences in formal, academic English
  • write cohesive & unified paragraphs and essays
  • use examples, facts and cause & effect to support arguments and points
  • plan, structure and deliver reports, essays and other academic assignments
  • format their work correctly
  • proof-read and edit their and others’ work

 

ACADEMIC COMMUNICATION 1

Designed for students at high school and undergraduate level who need to improve their academic speaking and listening skills.

 

At the end of the course students will be able to:

 

  • listen to and understand short academic lectures and talks
  • make effective notes on what they have heard
  • contribute to discussions in seminar-type situations
  • make short presentations to a group
  • analyse information and explain their ideas clearly

 

Special attention will be paid to pronunciation and stress and cross-cultural aspects of communication.

 

ACADEMIC COMMUNICATION 2

 

Designed for students planning to take higher degrees through the medium of English/overseas who need to attend lectures and seminars in English, collect information and make effective contributions to discussions.

 

At the end of the course students will be able to:

 

  • listen to and understand standard academic lectures and talks across a range of subject areas
  • make effective notes on what they have heard
  • contribute to seminar discussions and make presentations
  • talk at length in an interview situation giving clear opinions and explanations for their views

 

Special attention will be paid to pronunciation and stress and cross-cultural aspects of communication as well as critical thinking skills.

READING AND STUDY SKILLS LEVEL 1 and LEVEL 2

 

In future, if students complete 3 skills modules at Level 1 (Writing, Communication, Reading & Study Skills) they will receive a certificate in English for University Studies. If they complete 3 skills modules at Level 2 they will receive a certificate in English for Postgraduate Studies.
